the NAC Pond Hockey North America Championships at Lake Minnetonka dates are set for 1/15/10 and will have new divisions for women, teenagers, and children. the number of rinks is expanding to 18 adult and 10 youth.
Adult and Teen games are 4x4, and youth are 5x5. The city of Excelsior is excited to host this event for its second year. The folks at maynards, bayside, oconnors, old chicago, BWW, are pretty revved up for the event as well. All we need is a great summer, nice fall, and cold winter freeze in November and December.

Pond Hockey Championships on Lake Minnetonka countdown begins
ReplyDeleteEXCELSIOR, Minn. - Old man winter is breathing the chilly welcome winter life back into Lake Minnetonka. With each breath hockey teams are signing up for the second year of the Pond Hockey North American Championship.
This year’s tournament returns to Lake Minnetonka’s Excelsior Bay in Excelsior, MN. (Just 13.8 miles from MSP airport) starting January 22-24th with room for 200 teams for men, women, teen, and mite’s (5-9 yr old) battling for bragging rights, prizes, notoriety and the coveted “Chopper Cup”.
New title sponsors have signed on this year including Great Clips, Dunkin’ Donuts and Smuckers’ Uncrustables.
The North American Pond Hockey Championships (PHNAC) has partnered with non-profit businesses - Second Harvest Heartland, Spring Point Project and Susan G. Komen Foundation Minnesota affiliate (Skate for the Cure). Second Harvest Heartland is the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. They serve 59 counties throughout Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. PHNAC Pond Hockey has donated 2,800 pounds of food to the organization.
Spring Point Project’s mission is to provide an unlimited source of pig islet cells to accelerate the availability and affordability of islet transplantation to cure diabetes.
The Minnesota affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is committed to raising money to find a cure for breast cancer. In honor of the Komen Foundation a pink rink will be set up to honor those who have survived and those who have lost their battle with breast cancer.
Divisions include men’s 21 plus open AA, 21 plus open A, 35 plus, 45 plus; women’s B1, B2, C1 and C2; teen ages 12-16 and 17-20; girls’ U10, U12 and U14 and children ages 5, 6 and 7-9 are included in the mites division. Men’s and women’s competition starts at 8:00 A.M. Friday January 22nd and teen’s, girls’ and mites games begin at 2:00 P.M.
Adult teams arrive on Thursday January 21 for registration pick up and teams can continue on to Bayside for refreshments. Events during the weekend include adults only Hack ‘n Slash party Friday night with performing artists “the Evening Rig”, skills competition games throughout the weekend and a drawing to win a Polaris Junior RZR side by side ATV which has been donated by presenting sponsor Polaris.
All teams are entered automatically for the drawing and fans or players can receive more tickets for the drawing by testing their smarts at the hockey skills competition.
Local area businesses and restaurants will be open and accommodating players and their friends at families with food, drinks, shopping and places to warm up.
